Journal7 is an independently compiled web directory, organised in the manner of a printed gazetteer. The index currently holds 828 active entries distributed across 22 subject sections, each one representing a domain verified as operational at the time of filing. The project began as a practical exercise in organising the open web by subject rather than by algorithm. Unlike search engines, which rank pages by relevance to a query, Journal7 presents its entries as a flat, browsable catalogue — the same way a reference librarian might file cards in a subject drawer. Each section in the index corresponds to a broad subject area: from dental and legal services to gaming, travel, and general commerce. The twenty-two sections were chosen to reflect the actual distribution of submissions received, rather than any prescribed taxonomy. Submissions to Journal7 are reviewed by a human editor before being added to the index. The process is straightforward: submit a domain via the add page, and if the site is operational and does not duplicate an existing entry, it will be filed under the appropriate section. There is no charge for inclusion. Journal7 does not sell listings, trade in placement, or accept payment for editorial decisions. The index exists as a reference resource, not an advertising platform. It is updated continuously as new submissions are processed and reviewed.
